They MUST have suitable perching area behind plants where chameleon can hide entire body from view and block UVB light from above - Ideal: Place cage so top basking branch is above your head height - Screen, hybrid, or glass cages can be used.
Temperatures: Daytime 72-78 degrees F
Nighttime 60-70 degrees F
Basking area should be 85-90 degrees- only 4-5 hours a day.
Lighting we recommend the T5 Arcadia lights for UVB. Plus, keep in mind you will also need a reptile incandescent Heat bulb for basking. (50 to 75 watts depending on cage size) You will need a Temperature/Humidity gauge as well, to monitor these conditions.
Humidity:
Daytime 40%- 50%
Nighttime 80%-100%
Feeding:
Babies or Gravid females: We feed everyday with dusted, gut loaded crickets. We also offer silkworms, hornworms, discoid roaches and mealworms. Typically, 10-12 crickets per day. We do not limit these guys, so just watch how fast they eat them.
Adults: We feed every other day 10-12 dusted, gut loaded crickets. The in-between days are the ones that we use the silkworms, hornworms, mealworms as treats.
Ideal feeder length is equal to the distance between the eyes.
Supplements: Repashy Calcium Plus LoD is one of our favorites, you will use this every time you feed.
Please feel free to ask us about Misters, Foggers and more. Chameleons do not drink from a water dish, so you will need to spray the cage several times a day.
We recommend live plants instead of artificial ones. Our favorites include:
Philodendron, Pothos, Monstera, Dwarf Schefflera, Ficus trees, Money tree, Hibiscus trees and more. Please be sure to add lots of horizontal and vertical branches in their enclosure.
